Violet Gaynor

As co-founder & editor of the popular motherhood site The Glow, Violet Gaynor is anything but ordinary. Based in New York and mother to daughter Plum, Gaynor captures tender moments and the honest stories behind the fashion industry’s chicest mothers and their views on motherhood while also giving us a peek into how she handles her life journey on The Glow. Read along to discover her entrepreneurial character and how her concept of “handling it all” is more sophisticated than you think.

Describe your typical Sunday. Where are you, what are you wearing, and who are you with?

My husband and I bought a small cottage in the sleepy beach town of Amagansett five years ago, and we recently embarked on a major renovation project. Once our house is done, our Sunday's will be spent at home drinking coffee, eating long, indulgent breakfasts, and probably playing make believe with our daughter. In my dream world, I'm wearing matching pajamas and my hair is clean, but the reality of my Sunday morning is worn-in leggings, a tank top, and messy, one-week-old blow-out hair.

You’re the editor of The Glow, a site dedicated to honoring inspiring and fashionable moms. How has your work impacted your philosophy on motherhood?

Through the process of photographing and interviewing so many of the women I've respected and looked up to throughout my career, I've had the chance to understand their journeys in the most intimate way. While I have learned invaluable mama wisdom from each and every woman we've featured, the biggest lesson is that the concept of "having it all", at least in the traditional sense, is a bit of a myth. Through The Glow, we hope to have created a space that shows the complex world inhabited by working moms, and how each one has come up with unique ways to strive for balance. Creating a safe, supportive community means that we can all feel less alone as we navigate through the choppy, magical waters of motherhood.

What is your favorite way to unwind and treat yourself?

Almost every single night, I take a bath with my daughter, which is a sweet, intimate way to end our day. Once in a great while, I'll switch things up and take a bath on my own after she goes to sleep. That quiet, uninterrupted 20 minutes is incredibly rejuvenating and makes me realize how important it is to carve out quiet time so I can be a better mother, wife, entrepreneur, friend, and human.
